Support for a Family of Rural Orphans
During a visit in January 2003, 2 of the Trustees met a widow with 6 boys, who was suffering from HIV AIDS. She passed away in 2005, leaving her children with an acre or so of land and a grass hut. An appeal in Cardiff resulted in sponsorship which continues to this day. SPT were able to fund the building of a small clay brick house with a corrugated steel roof. The youngest child succumbed to AIDS, but the remainder have all survived. A housemother was employed to wash, clean and feed then so all could attend school. Secondary school fees were funded by SPT, and at 16 or so, the boys chose to leave and work on the land. A visit in January 2019 found all 5 still on their own land, 3 married and with children. The brich built house was still there, and in good repair. The compound was clean and tidy, crops were in the gardens. Okanya Charles, the 4th, born passed his A levels, and is now at University in Mbale, reading Education. The 5th born is at secondary school supported by Compassion. A remarkable story of success in the face of hardship, made possible by the regular financial support of a family living near Cardiff over a period of 14 years.
