Soroti Baptist Medical Centre
The Centre has been providing high quality, low cost Primary Care treatment for patients since opening in May 2010. We now have a staff of 12, led by Dr Emma Oluka, a well respected Medical Officer. Patient numbers are increasing slowly, and we still have a way to go before the Centre is self sustaining. A minor surgery room was established in January 2014. Pastor David Echau took over as Administrator in April 2018 with a clear task of raising patient numbers. A review undertaken in May 2018 identified ways to reduce operational costs, and a further review in January 2019 confirmed these have already helped to improve efficiency. Dentist Joshua Achetu joined the Centre in mid 2018 to provide expert dental care. There is a first class, well equipped Laboratory in the Centre, run by George Opoka. Testing and Medical equipment has been added over the last 2 years, including an ECG machine in January 2019. Since early 2017, the Centre has benefitted from two visits each year by Dr Mark and Nurse Marian Vaughan. Dr Mark ran a GP practice in Llanelli for over 30 years, and has worked with the Medical and Clinical Officers to enhance their practical skills. Nurse Marian has helped to enhance the training of the nurses from the Centre, on child screening and baby massage. SaltPeter Trust provides monthly financial support for SBMC to help the Centre balance its books, as it works toward sustainability. Further regular visits are planned to provide additional training and oversight of the staff. |
