Boreholes and Sanitation
SaltPeter Trust understands that clean water and good sanitation are essential for good health. We have been able to fund and manage 4 boreholes and several EcoSan Latrine blocks for cooperative members and the adjacent communities. Borehole committees are responsible for maintenance, collecting a small monthly charge form around 60 families to fund regular maintenance.
At Malera, Bukedea, SPT challenged EFOD, a sister charity, to provide a solar driven pump and tanks, to supply potable water for 4000 people and 10,000 cattle. The system is now managed and maintained by SaltPeter Trust supporters in Kachumbala.
Regular maintenance is necessary and we ask beneficiaries to help to pay for this, although we have had mixed success with this to date We are committed to servicing whatever we build.
