Ashiraf Heart AppealIn 2019 we met Ashiraf, a 7 year old boy living in Soroti, Eastern Uganda who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition by our Dr – Dr Mark Vaughan – during one of the ‘pop-up’ clinics we ran in Uganda earlier that year.
Despite having a leg deformity & wearing a prosthesis Ashiraf was an active & intelligent child who loves his football and was doing well in school. |
Sadly his condition was deteriorating & we were aware that without surgery his condition would become irreversible and life-threatening. We understood that surgery in Kampala would be possible at a cost of £5000+, way beyond his parents’ means. We made an appeal and received £6250 from our supporters. However it soon became clear that treatment in Uganda was unlikely. We teamed with Morning Star, a US based charity, who arranged for Ashiraf to travel to Bangalore with Hadijah, his mother, in late 2021. Open heart surgery was a success, and he returned to Soroti in December 2021.
He returned to school in 2023 when they reopened post Covid, and is now doing well. He cycles to school and is now doing really well.
Thank you to all who supported our appeal in any way.
