Koutulai Charity Farmers’ Group
The Koutulai Charity Farmers’ Group has grown into a thriving cooperative of 78 widows, creating lasting opportunities for families across the community. Every member has now received cattle, providing a valuable source of income and financial security. The cooperative has also become self-sufficient, taking full responsibility for operating and maintaining its own grinding mill. To strengthen food security and increase income, a grain store was completed in early 2016, providing secure storage for cassava and groundnuts. The group’s tree nursery has also become self-sustaining, producing several thousand seedlings each year for sale within the local community. |

Access to clean water has transformed daily life. A borehole, drilled in 2011, now supplies safe water to around 800 neighbouring residents, reducing the time spent collecting water and improving health and wellbeing.
The community village hall has been expanded with a covered patio, doubling its seating capacity. Throughout the week it serves as a training centre and vocational school, while on Sundays it becomes a place of worship for the local church.
In 2017, a solar power system was installed to provide lighting, allowing activities and training to continue after dark.
The cooperative continues to develop new sources of income. In 2021, a coffee drying shed was built, enabling seasonal coffee processing for Zukuka Bora Coffee Company. This initiative now provides employment for six local workers for around three months each year during the coffee harvest.
Today, the Koutulai Charity Farmers’ Group stands as a powerful example of how community-led initiatives can create sustainable livelihoods, improve infrastructure, and bring lasting hope to generations of families.
