The centre has been providing high quality, low cost Primary Care treatment for patients since opening in May 2010.  It has a staff of around 12, led by Dr Emma Opio, a well respected medical officer.  Patient numbers are increasing slowly, but there is still  some way to go before the centre is self sustaining.  A minor surgery room was established in January 2014.

An earlier review identified ways to reduce operational costs, and a further review confirmed these have helped to improve efficiency.
Dental services provide expert care and a first class well equipped laboratory offers additional and necessary services.

Testing and medical equipment have been added over recent years, including an ECG machine in January 2019, and a replacement CBC machine.

Since early 2017, the centre has benefitted from regular visits by Dr Mark Vaughan.  He ran a GP practice in Llanelli for over 30 years, and has worked with the medical and clinical officers at the centre to enhance their practical skills.

Pop Up Clinics in the rural areas around Soroti started in 2018, offering free treatment for some of the rural poor, thanks to grants from the Wales & Africa fund run by the Welsh Government.

SaltPeter Trust provides monthly financial support for SBMC to help the centre balance its books, as it works toward sustainability.

Further regular visits are planned to provide additional training and oversight of the staff.
